10. Korean Air Lines flight KL007

This incident took place on September 1, 1983 because of the lack of alertness and sharpness of the cabin crew. This plane was shot down by Soviet Union because somehow the place managed to drift into the Soviet airspace and the pilot didn’t notice this thing. This carelessness of the pilot came to be very expensive for all the passengers. This 747 was carrying 269 passengers and it was shot down near Sakhalin Island in the North Pacific.

9. Pan American flight 103

On December 21, 1988 this plane blew up in Lockerbie, Scotland killing 270 people and two Libyan agents were allegedly held responsible for this incident.

8. American Airlines DC-10

This crash occurred on May 25, 1979 on the American soil when the engine detached and caused the disruption in the functioning of one of the wings. The airplane rolled by 90 degrees and turned into a fireball just a mile away from the Chicago’s O’Hare airport. This crash resulted in 273 fatalities.

7. Airbus A300

It is really painful when you shoot down a commercial airliner taking it as a hostile military plane. Yes, this is what happened over the Straits of Hormuz by the US Navy destroyer Vincennes. None of the persons on board survived at all. This incident took place on July 3, 1988

6. Saudia L-1011

On August 19, 1980, due to an in-flight fire and not taking precautionary measures this incident took place and resulted in the death of 301 people. Though, after taking cognizance of the fire the plane was made to be stopped at the far end of the runway but there was there was no evacuation commenced by the flight crew and by that time the passenger cabin was consumed by a flash-fire.

5. Air India 747

Air India 747 en route between Toronto and Bombay, on June 23, 1985, was blown up by a Sikh extremist. Authorities attribute this fatal incident to the inefficiencies of luggage screening which didn’t detect the bomb in one of the bags. The airplane fell into the sea east of Ireland killing 329.

4. THY (Turkish Airlines) DC-10

It is very deplorable that a poorly designed cargo door was the main cause of this crash. On March 3, 1974, DC-10 crashed near the Orly airport resulting in the death of 346 passengers and crew members. The cargo door burst from its latches and the plane spiraled out of control and crashed into the woods of northeast of Paris.

3. Ilyushin IL-76 cargo plane

It was a head-on collision between the Ilyushin IL-76 cargo plane and a Saudia 747 near Delhi. The responsibility of this tragic event lies on the shoulders of the cargo plane from Kazakhstan as it didn’t follow the instructions. This event occurred on November 12, 1996.

2. Japan Air Lines 747

This time it was the fault of the tech crew which is supposed to check the plane thoroughly and do proper repairs of the plane parts if there is any problem. The rupture of an aft bulkhead destroyed a part of airplane’s tail and it rendered the plane uncontrollable. The crash took place near Mt. Fuji after taking off from Tokyo on a domestic flight killing 520. This incident took place on August 12, 1985

1. Boeing 747

Owing to a foggy weather, on March 27, 1977, two Boeing 747s collided with one another while running on the same runway. These two Boeing were operated by KLM and Pan Am. KLM departed without instructions and this resulted in the loss of 583 precious lives. It was possibly a communication failure and blockage of radio transmissions.
